When this tight Mississippi Hill Country Blues influenced 3 piece came through Cobourg to a private show in March, they brought the house down, playing 3 and a half hours of cranked up Mississippi Blues a la RL Burnside and Junior Kimbrough, blended in with their own ideas and old souls.  They will be performing at the Northside Grill 92 King West in Cobourg on Thursday July 16th 9:15 pm (special southern menu that night, call the North Side for details and tickets at 905-377-9709).  Friday July 17th at 8pm will see them at the legendary Wilno Tavern, Highway 60 between Barrys' Bay and Killaloe.  Phone 613-756-2029 for tickets and info.   Tickets for all shows always available at Zap Records 20 King Street East Cobourg, phone 905-372-8231 for tickets and details or toll free at 1-877-562-2222.   Here is what the critics are saying about Moreland and Arbuckle....

"In Moreland & Arbuckle, Aaron Moreland, along with singer/harpist Dustin Arbuckle, whips his strings and melts the windings with his slide on '1861' (NorthernBlues). The pride of Kansas plays Hill Country stomps like his life depends on it.  These guys are Blues Legends in the making!"  -Guitar Edge Magazine

"Totally fresh and thought engaging! If these boys can slug it out, they'll one day be house hold names."  -90.1 FM KPFT Houston

" Dustin Arbuckle's powerful vocals and passionate harmonica and Aaron Moreland's passionate and frequently rockish and raunchy guitar solos sound like they could have come straight from the Delta."  -Allmusic 4 1/2 Stars

"1861 is one of the finest newest releases of 2008."    - Ben Cox, Blues Blast

Melvin has been called 'STUNNING!" by Jazztimes magazine, Rolling Stone says he's one of the best, and industry paper after paper cannot figure out why Melvin Taylor is not a household name.

Kenny Coleman coming to the Cobourg Blues Revue

Studebaker John, also out of Chicago, has played and recorded with the Yardbirds as well as the Pretty Things. On Studebaker John the Chicago tribune says..."His harmonica work recalls past masters like Little Walter and Big Walter Horton while his slide guitar is descended from Elmore James and Hound Dog Taylor (with whom he was friends). On top of that, John is a powerhouse singer and a talented songwriter who has several CD's out on the legendary Delmark label out of Chicago and produced multiple soundtracks.

Backing the two sets is journeyman drummer Kenny Coleman, who has played with everyone in Chicago and also worked with musical legends from Johnny Mathis to Koko Taylor.  On bass, the master Felton Crews, who played with jazz icon Miles Davis for 7 years. This is a stellar line-up that is going thrill Blues and music lovers to the soul.

For the Canadian talent, we kept it local as we have great musicians around with lots of Blues notches under their belt.  Dave Mowat, Blues Harmonica great has just confirmed.  Dave spent 9 years out west making his living playing Blues, playing dozens of times with Canadian Blues great Big Dave McLean and Ben Sures.  Dave was also featured on a CBC produced showcase called Wang Dang Doodle in Winnipeg.  His performance is exceptional.  His sound on harp is a nod to classic players like Little Walter and Walter Horton, while his strong vocals are more like Howlin' Wolf.  He aint puttin' it on, that is the way he sings!  Also confirmed are The Fabulous Tonemasters, aptly named, they pay attention to their sound.  These guys have been playing Blues for years and guitarist Gerry spent a number of years playing with Marty and the Mojos.  Both acts can be found on myspace.

ZAPP! Productions 1st Annual Blue Revue     At 45, RICK FINES is a veteran of the folk and blues circuits in North America. In October 2005 Rick went to Alabama where he took first place in the Sweetgum Bottom Acoustic Blues Competition.  His song "Riley Wants His Life Back" won first place in the blues category of 2003 International Songwriting Competition, with B.B. King one of the judges!  He won the MapleBlues Award for Songwriter of the Year this year, Acoustic Act Of The Year twice (98, 99), and has received eight additional nominations.  His work with Jackson Delta (for 15 years) brought nominations from both the Juno and the Handy Awards. He has played for legendary blues piano player Pinetop Perkins, songstress Colleen Peterson, folk icon Penny Lang and many others.

The tour will be Thursday October 1st (location and venue tba), Friday October 2nd Picton Regent Theatre 8pm, tickets $26.50  and Saturday October 3rd Victoria Hall Concert Hall, 2-11:30pm with a two hour break for supper. The Cobourg show will feature Canadian Blues artists all day with the Double Bill at night starting at 8:00 pm. Melvin and John will do their own set and then jam together at the end.  Tickets are $39.95 and are available at Zap Records 20 King Street East Cobourg, toll free 1-877-562-2222 and the Victoria Hall Box Office 55 King Street West, 905-372-2210.

Melvin Taylor Coming to Cobourg Blues RevueHere is more from the critics on Melvin Taylor...

"One of the most exhilarating blues guitarists to emerge in the past decade...[he} is more a blues innovator than a purist, mixing jazz chords and rock influences into his tapestry of electric blues."

Rolling Stone Magazine

"A volcanic guitarist...the sort of virtuosity that drags an audience into a world of risks and chances and excitement."

The New York Times

"Taylor's arsenal consists of blinding speed, a feverish wah-wah pedal, a range of tones that leaps from groans to squeals, and notes bent so dramatically that his guitar sounds like it's retching. Taylor succeeds because he's a virtuoso who pushes the limits of his own skills."

Living Blues Magazine

" dizzying speed, stunning!"

Jazz Times
